I am surprised that there is not a sticky on free software covering theory. Unless I missed it somewhere. There are some pretty decent music theory software out there for free.
I did a search tonight on google and found this:

I have only spent about 10 minutes with it but so far looks pretty promising. Definitely worth checking out is the Jam Band feature. just put in the chords you want, choose the style of music, and jam along.
It also has exercises to practice notes, scales, chords and even ear training exercises. There is also some sort of tablature feature but I have yet to mess around with it.
If there is any other software around like this or better, I'd definitely like to know about it. I'm sure other new bass players could benefit from them as well. Hell, maybe even create a sticky just for General Instruction Software.
