How much difference does the dual humbucking system make on the HH basses. Does it change the overall tone of the bass or does it just give it a greater range in it's tone capabilities. I'm asking this because I am going to buy a Blue Dawn Stingray and the HH version is about 400-600 bucks more and I need to know if it's worth the buy or if I should just go with the standard.

The big neck humbucker is a mellow tone generator. You can treble it up, but overall you get smooth tones from it.
I had an HH and sold it because at the time I wasn't using the neck humbuckers. Now I kind of wish I had it around for variety of tones.
The neck humbuckers also tends to get in the way of slappers doing their slappy slappy thumpity slap thing.

Ah see. I was planning on getting the Stingray for when I do Chili Peppers type stuff so maybe the HH isn't the best idea. I know Flea uses a standard Stingray.
I strongly recommend "try before you buy" in this case.
I prefer a HH SR4 and a single H SR5.
Hypothetically, on an SR4, an HH can do everything a single H can. This is not true of SR5's and Sterlings.
And when slapping, the neck H doesn't get in my way on an SR4, but it does on an SR5, Sterling, and Bongo.

If it is Stingrays. The HH can do everything the H does, plus 4 other pickup choices. And they are all pretty different sounding, and all very useful! (heck, I very rarely use the bridge pickup solo these days), generally use the second position, making use of the outside coils.
I have heard people say that they find the HH models, when selected to use the bridge pup, sound different to the HH bridge. But I don't believe it, and have certainly never heard the difference.
There are only really 3 negatives I can think of in regards to the HH:
1) Neck pickup might get in your way (never had an issue with it myself).
2) 3 band EQ only, can't get the 2 band EQ option, which some people prefer.
3) No Piezo option.
