I've been deliberating this for a good few hours, but I'm not getting very far. There's a lovely-looking EBMM Sterling in Pearl Blue with a maple neck on eBay at the very appealing price of £625. I already own a 1996 Stingray, and a Musicman SUB 5 currently serves as my backup bass. I won't ever sell the Stingray as it was a 21st birthday gift.
However, if I can get a good price (around £500) for the SUB, which I've only owned for a couple of months after buying it at a knock-down £250 from the keyboard player in my band, I'm thinking about jumping on this Sterling to replace it. I've currently not much use (yet) for a 5'er, and I don't take it to rehearsals/gigs as I use the bus/train to get around.
What I would like, however, is an 'alternative' to my Stingray- something I can "grab and go" in place of my Stingray when I feel like it. I don't feel as though I can do that just yet with the SUB as there is a) no need in my band's current repertoire for a low B and b) my hands are so used to the feel of a 4 string! On the other hand, it is a really nice bass (aside from the usual cosmetic points...i.e. the pickguard/painted neck) with the 2eq, that MIGHT come in handy when we head back into the studio. Would owning a Sterling and a Stingray (both 3eq) leave me too limited?
Anyway... I'll leave it in your hands: I need advice!
