Musicman Stingray 5 problem

Anyone else have this issue?

The G String is sitting so close to the edge that it falls off the neck if you apply any sideways pressure to it. It's sitting right on the edge of the bevel at the G string side. On the B string side there is plenty of room. The nut is cut right and the strings are centered over the pole pieces so it's not a neck centering problem. What it looks like is that someone got a little over-zealous sanding that side of the neck.

I just wondered if this was common on these instruments. It's a shame because it's a great instrument otherwise.

I noticed the same thing on the Sterling 5 string that I tried out last week. The bass felt and played great but yeah, the slightest sideways movement on the G string and it was off the neck.

I've owned at least 5 SR5 with no problems at all. Great basses.

I noticed that happenin on mine too, and I didn't like it. I gave mine to my nephew. I now play a Lakland.

Mine was close to that but not as bad. Have you tried detuning, loosening the neckplate screws just a bit, and ever so gently but firmly pulling the neck toward the top horn? Worked on a strat I built but I'm not sure about the SR5's neck pocket fit.

I haven't tried that but with 6 screws it's hard to imagine there's any wiggle room. There's enough room on the other side that the holes could be doweled and redrilled but the pocket on the g string side would have to be shaved since it's already tight. Maybe I'll go that route if the seller will kick in $100 bucks...

They are all like that. If that is a deal breaking concern then your best recourse is to look at other brands instead.

The only problem my SR5 has is that it's constantly dropping bombs.

All sr5 that I have owned had that problem! What I always did is have a luthier make me another nut. so that it wont be as close to the edge

Loosen the strings, loosen the neck bolts, rotate the neck very, very slightly, make it tight, re-tune.

that never works (especially with 6 screws) and as I mentioned the neck pocket is very tight. That trick worked on the old 3 bolt fender necks.

I had that problem on one of my SR5vers.
I had a new nut made and solved the problem
