Picked up a mustang pj a few months ago (A CME exclusive in Sherwood Green, it's a beut) , It's a blast to play, but I can't shake the feeling that I can more out of it if I swap the pickups. I put D'addario halfwounds on it and it's got a good solid fundamental acoustically, but through an amp I've been finding that the P pickup seems really muddy in the low end, It's big sounding but not defined. The J sounds 'ok' but not great. I've tried different pickup heights and it really doesn't seem to help much. I'm Going for a vintage vibe. Motown to Zeppelin.
What have people been using to upgrade? I've been looking at the Yosemite set, the Dimarzio AreaPJ, and a Duncan SPB-1 (although I need help picking a bridge J for that Set) Also open to other suggestions, but Really want to keep the cost around or less than $150
