Thanks for your comments, I found some sponge foam cut it to 1"W x 3/4"H x 3"L. Now my bass sounds like what I'm hearing on my CD's (James Jamerson/ Bob Babbitt) I can't play like them yet, but I found the sound.

When palm muting my basses i sometimes hit an accidental harmonic (i pluck at the end of the neck). Im gonna shove some foam under the strings soon for that thumpy uprightish tone.

I like the thump, and all of the over tones are gone.

Instead of foam i shoved a sock in there (couldnt find any foam) and it works quite well on my fretless with flatwounds!

Looks kinda dumb but whatever. It sounds good
