MXR 80 as a pre amp?

Can the MXR 80 be used as a dedicated pre amp? As in using it directly into a power amp and cab set up.

I've read that the Sansamp units have a dedicated output level for running a set up like this but I can't find any info on whether the MXR will work the same.

Cheers in advance (I hope this isn't a stupid question).

Put it before something like an Art Tube MP to boost the signal and it will work quite well.

Was thinking about doing this, it's probably the best option. Other than that I'd be spending three times the money on a Sansamp which is a bit too similar to the MXR for my liking.

Set up a make-do cab with the MXR and the power amp(old Trace Elliot RA250) and there's very little difference in volume between the bass straight into the power amp and through the MXR so I think I've answered my own question. Cheers for all the help.

i dont think that would be the best use for it but i have never tried it. i do however think its a great box if you want to blend in a little distortion/grit on your bass! i think the DI part is decent but i dont use it for that as i doesnt compare to my radial JDI.
