MXR Blue Box vs MXR 288

Looking at these two as octavers for my bass set-up. I play in a hard rock band and looking for something new to play with. Primarily interested in the octave effect, I hear the Blue box also adds fuzz.

Anyone with experience with these pedals on bass? Opinions? Thoughts? Critiques?

Pretty sure the blue box was what Jimmy Page used on Fool In The Rain. So that's what it sounds like.

If you want an octave pedal get the 288. If you want a fuzz pedal that's 2 octaves down get the blue box. They are not even close to comparable other than they both have the word octave in the description.

Also you can mod the Blue Box for higher output by removing the C11 cap. I did it to mine and it sounds much better. Also I need to get around to modding it for either 1 octave down or 2 with a toggle switch. Both very easy mods. I run my octave up Diabolik with my 2 octave down Blue Box. It's an awesome fuzz tone for glitchy weird fuzz if that's your thing.

As bassmusic17 has already pointed out, the Blue Box and the 288 are quite different beasts. If you're interested in octave down fuzz, you may want to have a look at the Recovery Couple Skate.

I use the blue box, and my bass is passive active/switchable
Even in passive mode the blue box is just glitch noise, even with 100% bridge pickup(witch is fine, I like noise) but what I like to do is run active and cut almost all the lows and fair amount of mids and slightly boost the highs then the blue box sounds just a tad bit less glitchy
