MXR Distortion Plus anyone?

So I have just recently noticed this little yellow box and it looks rather interesting. It's not very expensive and the controls are pretty simple.
So does anyone have any experiense with it? How does it work with bass? Can you get mild distrotion out of it?

I couldn't find any samples, so if anyone has one of these it would be nice to hear it in action

I ran sound for a Chicago 'No Wave' band.. (I think it was maybe Mute Era?) who featured bass and guitar with sequenced drums. The bassist used one with.. I think it was a Jazz and one of those Ampeg flip-top 1X15s. It was her only pedal, if I remember correctly.

It sounded good!

I don't have a soundclip, but I have owned a Distortion+ in the past.

I really liked it - it delivers some nice gritty overdrive, which can be very mild at low settings. At very high settings, though, you'll lose some low end.

The Distortion+ is essentially the same thing as a modified DOD 250, which is pretty popular around here as a cheap but great-sounding overdrive pedal. A few parts are different, but the circuit design is almost identical.

the best setting i found was distortion almost all the way down and output all the way up. pretty good pedal, but not my favorite.

I thought it was good for making "AM radio" type of sounds, but too bright to do supporting lines

Mine is modded with LED's in the clipping section, and it sounds really good blended with my clean tone, gain low and output high. It sounds even better when playing in higher registers. My friend did the mod, but he found out about it online and said it was really easy.

You are so correct. I think the only difference is a stock 250 is silicon and the MXR is germanium.
