MXR Envolope filter problem.

I usually don't use effects. I've used flangers and chorus in the past and not had any issues. I'm currently in a project that does have some funk and I wanted to add a little of the "auto wah" to a couple of songs.

I got a Zoom MS60b and couldn't get a decent sound out of it. Weird, because I had one when they came out and it was OK for the few effects that I might use but sold it. Anyway I couldn't any decent sounds out of it and took it back. I researched some demo videos and thought the the MXR M82 would do the job. Got it and still can't get a decent sound out of it, even using the sample settings. I must be doing something wrong. Basses I've used with it, P-bass with chromes, Jazz with DR hi beams and a Sterling with hi beams.
Thru a Streamliner 900 and an Avatar 2x10. I've tried bass--mxr-- amp input and connecting the mxr thru the fx loop. EQ settings and volume all over the place.
I allmost got the wah sound with the Sterling and all treble on the bass and amp. Still sounded crappy.

Thanks for any help.

I didn’t find those sample settings very useful either and had the same experience. I finally had to just spend some time and find the settings that worked to my playing style and touch. I also used a P with flats. I now have it set for my playing and it works with pretty much any bass.

Check out what I’m working with on it.

I've come to the conclusion that it's defective. I've watched Ed Friedland's video on this unit and used the same settings and adjustments and I get nothing that sounds like it should. No sweep or swell, just and increase in bass tone. I've tried different power sources and even a different amp and no change.

Thanks to all that tried to help.

That could also be a sign that the filter doesn't open.
Do you get enough output from your bass? Max out the volume knob ?
You could also try a boost before just to see if the filter respond at all...
Thanks, That Was It! With a 900 watt amp in a 12 x 15' room I keep my bass vol low. I turned the amp down and the bass up and it works.

Thanks again.
