Oh right, the Meatsmoke! I admit that I totally forgot about that, will do! Band practice would have been today, but we have another snow front incoming and the current wind speeds qualify as storm, so we put that on ice (pun intended).
Mr Black has some great stuff. I have had these and they're up there for best in class to my ears. The asterisk indicates still have.
Supermoon Chrome -- spooky bright reverb
Bloodmoon -- spooky dark reverb
Shepard's End -- barberpole flanger
Fwonkbeta* -- envelope filter
Vintage Ensemble* -- chorus
Gilamondo* -- eight stage phaser
I miss the Supermoon Chrome. Really great reverb for out-there modulated tones with a very long decay.
Yeah the Mr Black Gilamondo is one of my favorite bass phasers, it beat out a number of analog phasers for me that were the TB favorites for years (there are a TON more options now though since when I grabbed the Gilamondo). I can’t believe they discontinued them (similar story to the Tech 21 Bass Boost Chorus)
Agreed, it's funky and chewy, very in your face, especially with dirt going through it.
Same here, though they do limited runs every now and then.
Okay, I found another pedal that has been on my list for a long time and played hard to get. By pure chance.
I was browsing the web for a Zvex Super Hard On for an affordable price (the original version, of course, none of that plebeiean Vexter stuff) and opened Reverb. On the starting page, I saw the ad and had bought it less than 30 seconds later. There was no thinking involved, this happened on pure instinct.
It's gonna come my way from Dublin, Ireland - so it might arrive on the same day the Brougton comes in. Or earlier. Or later. Or never. I'll see.

Why was he browsing for the SHO you might ask yourself at this point, and I will answer that. Disssa told me that the Dragon uses the same kind of OPamp for overdrive that gets used in the JPTR FX Jive and that the Jive is lifted off the Zvex SHO. Now that he said it, I cannot unhear. The one thing I loved about the Jive is how wide that area of not entirely clean, but not yet really distorted is - and the Disssid Dynamic Drive is capable of the very same thing.
You're sitting there, headphones on, and when you hit the switch, the sound somehow becomes more .... something more. More better, in a musical sense.
And learning that Zvex, with making the SHO seems to have created the father of that idea made me curious about the pedal - how does that work with a single knob?
Well, my free budget is now spent and I'll have to postpone other purchases to the point where I sold other pedals.

I don't have any experience with the SHO or the Jive, but reading up on the SHO, it sounds like it works just like the JHS Prestige. Don't know if the tone is similar or not, but it has that special sauce about it when just barely turned up from all the way CCW then between 9-10 o'clock it starts to get that barely there break up thing and is really warm sounding and adds a little thickness. Turned up from their you will start getting break up.
I would assume if they are similar the tone and breakup will be different depending on what is running after it on the board.

I built a SHO for a guitarist friend and really liked it on bass, meant to make one for myself. Thanks for the reminder.
It seems like it, the description of the Prestige and the SHO are pretty much the same.
I don't know how that works with a single knob, hence me looking for a SHO to buy, test and probably sell - so I needed a good price on that.
Both Jive and Dynamic Drive have the benefit of separate gain and level knobs, so you can set your tone and still have unity on the pedalboard.
On the Jive I had one knob very much turned up and the other very much turned down - I think I ran on something like 8/10 gain and 1/10 level.
Mate, I just had a look at your profile pic. Is that a Meatsmoke or a Skyhammer? And if yes, is it yours?
Zvex also has a newer offering called channel 2. It's a tiny sho with 2 knobs.
Splitting hairs here: It seems it's the second channel of the supa dupa 2 in 1 pedal, which is two super hard ons in a row with added master volume.
