My E string sounds boomy, is there anything I can do?

Hello,
I own a 32" headless bass with a combination of Nordstrang Big Split and Big Man pickups.

I'm using regular long scale D'Addario nickels on this bass (EXL170BT), balanced tension (107, 80, 60, 45).

I like these strings on my long scale basses but the E string has a lot of bass on my headless and I'd prefer a more balanced sound string to string.

I understand shorter scale will make the bass somewhat boomier by design but is there anything that coul help?

You may be getting sympathetic harmonic vibrations from somewhere. Is the E boomy no matter where you play? If so, take @Jon Moody's advice and lower the pickups on the E side.

Thank you for your answers. I did lower the pick-up already and it still sounds pretty loud although not as loud as a before. I'd say that the E string is louder when I play over neck pickup. The bridge pickup seems pretty well balanced.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. What I meant was physical location-wise. If you play in a different room or different building, is the E string still boomy?

This. I bought a Sterling Ray 34 last week with a boomy E. Adjusted the pickup height to Musicman specs and the boom is gone.

I see! Yes, the problem remains the same in every room or so it would seem.

I'd try different strings first as that's least expensive. Another fix would be a high pass filter. A compressor might help if it's really a volume issue.

Try swap the 107E to 100E.
But it could be floppy on 32 scale bass.
