Hello to all, first post after checking in last week. I'm new to the bass, have played guitar poorly for a lot of years, I can't seem to pass on the unwanted, neglected guitars on Craigslist or garage sales, as long as it cheep. About a month ago I picked up my first bass on Craigslist, a 1993 MIJ Fender MB4. Non working, sticky dirty, every nut and screw loose, got it cleaned up, set up, new strings and patched up the electronics to get sound.
Never being one to leave things alone, I had to replace the electronics, already having the pots & caps, I needed new pickups, again cost being a major factor, I found a some Fender V-Mod P Bass set and J Bass set on Reverb mint condition used, figured what the heck I'd give them a try. Made up 2 sets of controls VVT first using 250k audio pots with .047 orange drop cap, the other with 500k Audio pots, and a .068 orange drop cap. Needed to slightly modified the P pickup slightly to fit in the reverse P routing but no problems, tried both controls but liked the 500k best for now.
