My First Jazz Bass (Did I Do the Right Thing?)

If you want to get rid of the unavoidable single coil hum, you're going to need to spend more than that on replacement hum-cancelling pickups. Though shielding might go a long way to cut it down. Or you could choose to only play it when you're inside a Faraday cage, but that's not exactly convenient. :)

This was a TOTAL impulse buy, so I need some reassurance from my excessively extended TalkBass family!

I done bought a Jazz Bass! The Squier VM '77 4 string in black. Upgraded (sort of) with MIM Fender pickups. The bass cost me the princely sum of $100.
I've heard some nasty things about Agathis and about Fenders and Squiers and Jazz Basses in general.

Would you have pulled the trigger? (Pics later. Bass arrives on Saturday.)

YES! Affinity's usually sell for $100, VM's are usually around $200!

OP: Do you know that it's agathis? I thought most of the VM jazz models were basswood or maple (for the natural finish).
My VM Jazz has been solid, they are great quality for the price. I wish I had paid 100 used for mine! I had to troll Ebay with bids until I got mine $230 shipped a few years back. They go new for that now, so $100 used is a bargain. The MIM pickups are nothing to lust for but depending on the year might have been a worthwhile step up.
