Incidentally, an EQ story; in my first gigging band, the BL/guitarist once asked if I minded if he fiddled with my EQ. He had a lot more experience than me, and was polite enough to ask first, so I said sure. He tinkered a while and basically wound up scooping my mids. I had been using a setting of about 7-7-4 (out of 10), he changed it to like 9-2-7. Sounded great in the practice room.
Our next gig after that, I'm using his settings, we start playing the first song, and he calls over to me, "Can you turn down?" Turn down? My master volume is barely at 3 or 4. Shouldn't be all that loud. "Yeah, it sounds really BOOMY!" Boomy. Huh, boomy. So I go to my EQ, leave the volume untouched, and put my settings back at 7-7-4. "How's that?" "GREAT! Much better!"
