One thing experience has taught me. I have little control over other musicians tone, style, work ethics or their abilities. I only concern myself with my own.

It is a real problem in bands though. Those cheap, nasty pedals are truly horrible, so the whole band sounds like crap. Tone is important, so you should be able to sit the guy down with the rest of the band and just tell him that his nasty pedal has to go. If he refuses to listen, then he's a selfish git in my opinion. It's a band, after all, and there has to be some give and take on anything that's causing the rest of the band grief. In my first band, I was overdoing the reverb (rather lot in retrospect). The other guys just told me, "enough with the f*cking reverb", and since they all said the same thing, I knew they were right. You can ignore one person's opinion, but not the whole band.

I hope you find a solution; we can joke about this sort of stuff, but problems like that are a real pain in the ass. I've seen bands break up over less.
