my line6 G50 died on me. wow

Bought the unit afew months back, tested it at home and all was fine. Secured the transmitter to my strap and all.

Have a gig tomorrow, so I just gave test drove it. And to my horror, the signal was cutting in and out constantly.
Im pretty sure Ive got the settings right.

same channel, correct output etc.

Help? I have not gigged with it even once

Could be a couple of issues. Check to make sure the cable is securely connected to the body pack. Also, make sure the cable is plugged all the way into the bass. Bonehead things for sure, but I've done both!

Barring those things, there may be interference. Wireless routers and cell phones are in the same range as the G series, and there have been venues I couldn't use my G30 because of all the interference. Watch the reciever... if the bars indicating signal go off from time to time, there could very well be interference.

Contact Line 6 to be sure the transmitter does not have a minimum input impedance.

Nady goofed on their 201 design years ago in that respect.
I caused intermittent cut outs. I learned the hard way while playing on a float in a parade.

They had a modification for it, but didn't make it known unless you contacted them.

Not an issue here... more than likely, it's the transmittor cable, or some other cable issue...

I used to hear nothing but praise for the Line 6's. Now it seems like many people are having problems with the G50's cable. I am glad I went with the G30 myself. I haven't had any problems with it at all.

+1, it's gotta be that chintzy cable they come with. an upgraded spare or three (with right angle ends, natch) is your first step here.

Ok, for anyone who is interested I went back to the store where I bought my line 6 and told them on my problem. The funny thing was, the signal was perfectly fine over there....!!!

When I got home, I tried it in my bedroom the same problem occurred, signal was cutting in and out. HOWEVER, when I brought my amp out to the living room and tried again everything was fine. I can play with the transmitter anywhere in the house and it sounded fine as long as the amp is not in my bedroom.

Im convinced it is some weird grounding issue thats causing the problem.

It would suck if I turned up at a gig and the same problem arises. I wonder if it is the modem in my room or something. Any ideas?

I suppose if you also have a 2.4ghz wireless router in there, it *could* be causing a problem - have you tried using another channel???

Have you verified that you have proper power in the room that's giving you difficulty???

Yeah, it's my understanding that the G50 will cause wifi to have problems, and not the other way around...

Also, the guitarist in my current band is using a G50, and we've played the Turning Stone casino and one of the Toby Keith bars in the Destiny USA Mall in the last month - arguable both with alot of 2.4 traffic - and he didn't have any issues whatsoever...

If the cable is the faulty one, wouldn't it make more sense for it to have interruptions regardless of location? Also, I have the cable modded into a right angled one. As far as I know , the wiring is still the same

could be..BUT the thing with cables is..thats how they die sometimes..slowly..intermittent cut outs..and usually on a gig. ;)
I thought mine was dying a long time ago..chased my tail for several gigs..yikes.

I'd get the back up anyway.
I've never heard of these ever dying (or cutting out) It always seems to be the cable.

I hear the replacements are pricey, so I just make my own from radio shack parts.

Ok so I bought it down for the jam session and everything worked perfectly.

I tried using the internet on my iphone but the signal was disrupted probably from my line6 G50.

I suspect there must be some grounding issue in my bedroom or whatnot

I had this problem as well. There was one venue we played were the wireless was cutting in and out and wasn't working properly. My guitar players have had the same problem on occasion as well. Could be something with the power supply at the venue, I still don't know for sure.
