My newly aquired 70's Ampeg SVT!!!!!

A bit of an aside about logo's...

Did the early 70's models come with logos? I have a 74, and it does not have a logo on it, and the front grill does not even have the little extended piece of wood where one would have screwed into.

I think you made the right choice with the vintage SVT over the CL for sure. I gigged 70s SVTs back in the 80s and loved 'em. When I bought my VR I actually bought a CL with it - took them both on the gig to A/B them. The VR blew the doors off the CL, IMHO.

If my back wasn't so bad, I'd be lugging my VR all over the place...

Hi guys, I finally made up my mind & bought a vintage SVT head. It's in really good shape I believe. Looks very clean & sounds fantastic, through the 2 guitar cabs it was hooked up to at the tech's shop where I purchased it anyways (Billy Zoom - look him up). Can't wait to get my 1x15 cab from Fliptops.net. I hope it's as bumping as I think it's gonna be!

Anyways, I'd like to extend a sincere thank you to all who contributed to my questions along the way while deciding what amp to get. This place was my number one deciding factor after reading many, many posts & asking a few questions. Jimmy was of great assistance as well & I couldn't have made up my mind with out any of you who chimed in. It was a toss up between this vintage SVT, an older and super clean SVT CL AV & an Orange AD200B. I think I'd have been happy with any of them but ultimately decided that this was the one! Thanks again & cheers to you all.

I believe that they started putting the logo on the front of the SVT in 1975.

There are transitional periods but if your amp doesn't have the wood to mount the logo, I think that it would be safe to say that your amp didn't have one originally.

Ah, that sucks Josh but if the repairs are less than the cost of a new one, I'd say you'll have made out once it's fixed!

Anyone have a closeup shot of the feet on their mid 70's head? It looks like some of them have 6 feet. Mine doesn't but no biggie.

Also, mine has a little tan card or tab of paper with the serial number on it that is glued to the black plastic plate on the back, on the far right side of it. You can see it in one of the pictures I posted. Anyone else have this?

i still remember the first time when i heard an SVT whille rehearsing : along with a drum kit, rhodes sax and vocal. Amazin the way that the basse was HERE sticking with the other sounds, never agressive. This magic low mid !!!

Funny, when I was in his shop, I wish I'd have mentioned that I thought he was a fabulous guitar player but I didn't say anything. To be fair however I was in a bit of a hurry. He asked about what bands I was playing with but I never mentioned his career or X. I'm going to write him after I've spent a little time with the amp & tell him thanks. I think I'll mention something at that point. I wasn't even very familiar with his career until afterwords anyways.

Hey Billy. Welcome! Yeah, that B15 of yours is awesome. I have actually told a number of people about it. Do you still have it? You could post it here in the classifieds section & I'm sure it will be gone in a hurry if CL doesn't do it.

I can't wait for my cabinet to come in so I can use my head. It's driving me nuts, just sitting in my living room staring at me every night!

LOL! $1200 for a 64 B-15n? That's a darn good price. I paid more than that to have mine restored by Jess Oliver! I, on the other hand, would like to hear more about this customized Silvertone bass Blast said you were playing when he walked in.

BTW, not for nothing, but you were always my favorite member of X. I think you are absolutely brilliant. And at a time when punk bands were trying to look as miserable as they could, you really stood out because you always looked like you were having a great time. As it should be...who wouldn't have a great time when they can play like you?
