Pretty insignificant in respect to everything else going on, but it’s still one of those events that mark an end of an era on a personal level. Of course it wouldn’t mean anything to you, but think about your favorite dive, dump, hole in the wall, hang. The place where you gigged, saw your friends play, saw some incredible show, had the night of your life, met someone
, etc. So, this joint was that for me. I was de facto/default sound guy there for a few years in the late 80’s/1990, which meant that there was no house PA, and if a band didn’t have one of their own, I got called in, which was most of the time. I worked extensively with a band that was a cross between Canned Heat and Motorhead who unfortunately just missed the post-Nirvana brass ring, but in the day they always packed the place to the rafters. In one moment I’m not proud of, I fell asleep briefly doing the sound for No Means No(nothing to do with the band, who were great, just too many late nights). After I moved away, I’d still always drop in to say hello, and had a perpetual free pass to any show. So, hats off to Davey’s Uptown Rambler’s Club, and to whatever place you call home away from home(until closing time)...
