My recent encounter at GC

So, what did they offer you?

We never got to the place where an offer was made. Yes, it was a parts bass. I had enough to assemble a complete and functioning 34" scale and with the Fender replacement neck I thought it might have a little more value. I was hoping that they (GC) might recognize that. It took me by surprise when the person dealing with me was taking it apart without asking me. When I found him doing so is when he told me he was a Certified Fender Technician. If he would have introduced himself as such from the beginning and described how he was going to check it out I would have said OK and wouldn't have started this discussion.

I have a love-hate relationship with GC. At the age of 62, they talk to me like I’m an imbecile, but I have more musical experience than the combined staff on shift at any moment. They try to “explain” things to me, then I pick up a guitar and wait for their jaw to drop. Then they come running with the $3000 Taylors, Gibsons, Fenders, etc. Usually all I buy there is strings, but I have bought a guitar and a bass from them over the years. I recently got my Epiphone viola bass from them. I saw one in the used section and, when I came back to buy it a couple of days later, it was sold. The girl who helped me offered to look and see if any other GCs had one. She found one at a GC across the country that was $50 less than the one they had sold. I told her to order it and it came in a few days. I normally wouldn’t have expected that kind of service from GC. I’m very happy with the instrument so they “redeemed” themselves for the time being.
