my SX better than an Am. Std.?

I went today to a local store to try out a Fender American Standard Jazz bass from the latest production and after a while I playing it I realized that my SX 75 sounds better to my ears, and this is very good as it prevented me from spending 1175 € on that Fender. Obviously we can start talking about finishes, woods quality and everything else, but the things that really matter to me in a bass are the sound and how it feels in the hands while you play it. That said I also add that when I´ll have the money for a Geddy Lee model with a neck as thick as an SX I´ll buy it right away :)))

My Fender sounds better than any SX I have heard, and thats again, to my ears.;)

I think of basses like that quote from "Herbie - the love bug" ..."They make 2000 cars, they make 'em exactly the same way...and 1 or 2 of them turn out to be something special!"

Who knows, maybe you're too used to the sub-par SX to know a good thing on a killer MIA...just use what sounds/feels best! (My first bass was a MIM jazz...everyone liked it and I was told it was better than some of the MIA's out there when I was 18/19, and if you get told that by a killer pro playing a stock japanese Squier as his main bass since before you were concieved - you don't argue with the guy!)

I can believe it sounds better to his ears.

JimmyM posted unlabeled clips of a Fender and an SX, and most people preferred the SX, and/or couldn't tell the difference.

There have been others who have posted that they were requested to use their SX in the studio.

There's nothing magical about Fender and no reason another brand can't sound better, regardless of price.

EDIT: ...my personal experience was that the Pups on my SX's were really weak, and I replaced them. I don't think they are consistently good pickups, because some people have great luck with them, while others (like me) find them lacking.

well guys...I´m not going to answer to you one by one ´cause it´s not necessary; all I can say is that I don´t want to change anybody´s mind about principals and values. It just happend today that I heard an instrument, that over here costs 1175 €, that didn´t satisfy my taste; especially on the slap. And yes I heard and played quite a few basses, that´s all.

@THand: I remeber that thread too, but probably many here don´t...

And to all the integralist Fender lovers: I don´t mean that SX produces better instruments than Fender; it was just a comparison made with my ears on TWO intsruments.

I didn´t mean to offend anybody, and to prove that I´ll stop playing SX basses :D :bassist:

I have had SX's that to my ears sound much better than Fenders and vice versa. I did several threads with blind clips with Squiers, Laklands, SX's, G&L's, EBMMs and a lot of people had a hard time discerning them.

I think the bottom line is that each slab of wood can sound different. But don't knock something because of a logo until you've truly listened to it.

I think too many people convince themselves something sounds better because they forked out a lot of money for it. I've done it myself :(

+1, there's plenty of SX basses that come out playing and sounding better than some MIA Fenders. You're drinking the Fender koolaide if you really think it's impossible for that to happen and need a reality check on what basses are actually made out of.

The blind sound clips tests you see on here now and again fool a lot of people who think only Fenders can sound good. It's usually a lot harder to tell the difference between say, an SX bass and a Fender than a Squier and a Fender since the body woods are the same type and SX pickups basically model vintage Fender pickups. Build quality, neck profiles, etc etc aside, SX basses usually SOUND really good. There's not usually too much debate about that part. Except in threads like this where people miss the "sounds better" and automatically think the OP means in every aspect, but I digress...
