My Two HOGs (G&L)

IMG_0470.jpg

UPS dropped off my newest acquisition today, a custom ordered 2-tone burst L2000 from 2006, with all the features that I would have ordered... single coil option, 1.5" nut, maple board, gun oil tint neck. I'm so stoked on the mahogany, I've had the tobacco burst mahogany semi-hollow ASAT since Nov '09 and I'm loving it. The ASAT wears flats, and the L2000 wears rounds -- all tonal options covered.

As a side note, UPS is really good at busting those little metal feet on the molded cases. Please, when you ship a bass UPS pad those feet/handle/clasps. But it's just a case, and the bass arrived in great condition!

Thanks guys!

Wow those are nice. I didn't know they still made basses out of mahogany. How do the weights compare - is the semi hollow noticeably lighter?

Yeah, the tookay I would say is right around 10 lbs, while the ASAT is 9 lbs or less. I don't think they do make basses out of mahogany anymore, these are both essentially custom ordered instruments. The ASAT I just happened to find in a guitar shop in SF marked way down. They told me it was a NAMM show piece that had been in the shop a long time. It has a 3 bolt neck. The L2000 I know was a custom order by a TBer.

Know where I could find some ASAT semi-hollow sound clips? G&L's site has some clips, but not for that model. And I can't seem to track down anything on YouTube or anywhere else.

Oops, check that: I did find one sample on YouTube. But it's not particularly helpful.

I couldn't tell you. I haven't recorded with mine yet. If you can't find any clips with a TB search, you might try badass bass players forum, there are a lot of serious G&L aficionados there.

I have flats on mine and it still sounds huge like an L2000, with a nice thump from the flats. It is a little brighter than the solid bodies with rounds on.
