Mystery bass advice sought!

My friend has this Japanese bass but I can't find a brand or model # anywhere (including in the control cavity or the neck pocket).
It's actually a pretty decent instrument in original condition. Not great in the balance department though.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No help on the ID but the bridge cover is great!

The bridge cover looks like a user modded J cover.
The pickups and body look almost Univox/Mosrite...but not quite.
The curved edge of the bridge plate is like some 70's-early 80's Yamahas.
