Yep, I went ahead and grabbed a little BA108 before these mighty might original versions get replaced by the V2 series.
Poorly lit cellphone pic, but that's just going to have to be good enough. This amp has a job to do and no time for glamour shots.
BA108 looks and sounds good snuggled under the Yamaha.
My loving spouse and myself recently have been working on a little jazz duo project so okay that just cemented any other justification for a full time small living room amp.
My little BA112, while it did fit under the keyboard just fine, didn't leave room for much else. Plus the 112 gets the nod for my regular open mic/blues jams and so it travels too much for a strict living room amp. I needed something to pretty much stay put.
I admit the BA108 isn't really that much smaller than the 112, but every bit helps I guess.
Not much to say that hasn't already been said before, it sounds great, it's louder than any 8" driver "practice" combo has a right to be, has that timeless Ampeg look (can't jank up the living room you know), and most importantly I love the separate volume control for the RCA inputs- the feature that pretty much cinched the deal.
I run a laptop into it through the RCA inputs, along with keys and/or my bass with the two 1/4" inputs, and have the option of listening to it all through headphones. PERFECT!
I do follow several of the threads regarding modifying these little gems, and I wouldn't be against doing the straight up Eminence Alpha 8 replacement. But that's all future talk, the little amp sounds plenty great as is and is waaaaaaay more than enough for living room duty. Yes, it shakes the walls and rattles the widows, it may be small but it's an Ampeg through and through.
Anyway, those that know me know how much I already love my other two BA series workhorses, my BA112 and good ole' BA210.
BA210 and BA112. The BA108 isn't much smaller than the 112!
I'm sure there's a Goldilocks joke in their somewhere.
Sometime I'll do a group shot and/or a pyramid stack w/ them all together.
Anyway, lovin' my little Ampeg BA collection.
