When I got back into gigging again a while ago, I realized I needed to update my old rig. The ancient (um, vintage) Peavey head still sounded pretty good and was plenty loud, and I first found some cabinets on Craigslist. Again, old Peavey sutff sounds great, and is cheap because it is so friggin heavy. I first got an 115 with BW speaker.

I wanted to get a match for that in case I needed it, but a 410 TVX came up on CL. I held off for a long time because it was 4 ohm so I couldn't match it up with 8 ohm 115 (and, also, mixed cab police). But I finally went and checked it out and bought it right away because it sounded so great. It became my main cabinet.
Still not 100% satisfied with the old Peavey head. I picked up an Aguilar Tone hammer and was totally wowed by it. It's everything it's cracked up to be.
So I decided I was going to go the preamp/poweramp route. Not only is that the perfect way to use the Tone Hammer, but poweramps are stereo, so I could run the channels independently an biamp the cabinets and not have to worry about the impedance mismatch.
Enough words. Pictures. Here it is recently unwrapped (it was the biggest package under the tree - I win!)
It's a Crest Audio Prolite 2.0. 2000 W bridged, but I am running it in stereo, where it puts out about 540 W each channel into 4 ohms each. Plenty of power since each cab is only rated to 300W.
And after years of buying Peavey stuff without Peavey making any money from me, I finally got some money sent to Meridan MS (Crest is owned by Peavey; I think the prolite series is related to the Peavey IPR power amps).
And, I will probably never need so much volume, because for my main band I DI into a really nice PA system that does a great job with the bass, but I had to set it up just once. Mixed cab police, please shield your eyes. But I believe these two cabs are designed to be run together. And again, because they are bi amped with the separate channels, I can independently control how much juice each cabinet gets.
I only had he gain and volume knobs at about 60% on the preamp, and the attenuators set to about 40%, and it still hurt my ears.
Anyways, it sounds really, really good.
