New Amp Day... but just barely. I put this practice "rig" together for my guitar, but given that the Joyo American Sound works well as a bass preamp, I thought I'd give it a shot through a 1-12. At a bantam 44 watts, the Electro-Harmonix Magnum 44 does not shake any walls, but it puts out enough power for solo practice and for a mellow coffeehouse gig. (It gets louder though my 1-12 guitar cab.) The Magnum starts clipping with the volume knob at noon, but by then it's given you a fair shake for its size and cost.
The cabinet is one of these: Another DIY cab thread. Loud, Small, and Cheap. 22 pounds that pounds.
For ultra microsity, it would be interesting to try it through one of these: Low-cost DIY practice/coffeehouse tweeterless 110 [long]
Duke put his cab cost at $110. The EXH Magnum is $150, and the Joyo is about $40. For about $300, you probably could do better on the used market. But in my case, I already had the cabinet and the Joyo. For an extra $150 on the Magnum 44, it was worth it to have a crossover practice rig that could also handle light gigs. (My first Magnum was defective, but I gave the product a second chance.)
