NAD: Super Bassman (was: Well Past Time)

Hi all,

I started playing bass guitar in bands (as opposed to just messing around with friends) about 20 years ago. I did so because I really wanted to play in the band, and they didn't need another guitar player. But I seemed to take to it quite naturally, and on it went.

I've continued to play bass AND electric guitar over the years in various bands. Presently I play bass in a Styx tribute called Grand Illusion (aren't the all?) in the Portland OR area. I also play lead guitar in a band called Funktown PDX. I'll share videos with everyone down the road I'm sure.

Anyway, despite playing for so long, I've always been very pragmatic with my bass gear and never been a 'gear head', like I have with my guitar gear. Recently the Grand Illusion has been doing well so I decided to plunge in and buy a top end amplifier. My work horse B2R E was fine, but... I have a Super Bassman 300 arriving this week! I'm pretty excited about that.

Anyway, I don't know how much I'll be participating here but I did research here quite a bit when choosing the Bassman. Thanks all.

Wahoo just picked up the new (used) Super Bassman from Guitar Center. I will test it out tonight, after work.

At some point I'll probably pick up a 410 bassman cabinet to match the amp, but until then, I made a ghetto mod to my Avatar neo cab. Not sure I love it, but it does match better now, compared to the steel grate that was there before.

I've had the chance to use the Super Bassman in rehearsal a couple times now. What an interesting difference compared to the old Ampge B2RE.
It's hard to explain, but the amp is beefier, warmer, and yet clearer at the same time. Notes are very articulate, and also fat. I don't have to struggle to make certain ranges heard. Everything is even, high to low. Certainly that is also due to the new Dimension bass, but even so I'm liking everything I hear.
The guys noticed the difference and were into it.
