Just arrived Mesa Boogie Subway D-800+.

My first test was just to see if it worked. And boy howdy dose it! I wasn't able to crank it here at home but we have a rehearsal tonight and I will get to give it a proper run through. But from what I've heard so far My GK MB800 is now going to backup status.

It's bigger than I expected. I guess I thought all class D amps were no bigger than the GK's.

Awesome. I'm very interested to hear your impressions of it after your rehearsal. I'm a GK MB800 user who is also interested in the D800+, so I'd definitely like to hear any specific things you like more about the Mesa compared to the GK.

Enjoy it. The + was a game changer for me. Never been happier with an amp before. With the Subway 112/115 stack, I'll never need anything more. I've used just the 115 and just the 112 jamming with various groups on their own, but together they can't be beat.
I'm running this through a couple of GK 410's. Don't worry though. Both are rated at 800 watts. I'll just be using one tonight.

Ok! First impression is this amp is a tad more involved to get the tone where you want it. But in the end it sits into the mix a little better than the GK. It seems to help pushing the amp a little harder than the GK. Most controls like mids wound up just around the noon position while voicing and the HPF were best at about 10/11. Master was at about 2 while input stayed at the 12:30 ish position.

Overall the rest of the band felt it was more pronounced and clear compared to the GK. The GK seems more powerful but the Mesa cut through at every volume level and sat in the mix better.

Conclusion is the Mesa will take the spot of primary amp while the GK will be in the wings if needed. I can see there will be times when I will want to switch just to mix things up a bit and compare sounds.

But bottom line the Mesa is a beast that needs some taming and once it's all figured out I'm sure this will be a long standing relationship. Next week I'm gonna try it with both 410's and see how that works.
