if anyone has seen my most recent thread, i stumbled upon an amazing music shop near where i live. it has a huge variety of new and old amps, basses, cabs, everything. i am 99% sure that i will find "myself" in one of the amps here. but i have a few questions about what i saw the first time i was there. i havent had a chance to play them yet, but i will. a lot haha. first off, i saw this head and had no idea what it is, all i know is that its a crate. i know crate is generally crap, but you never know. pic below

also, they have a few old SVTs the print is blue and i was wondering if they were any good.

and last but not least, they had this monster-

i have never seen one of the SVT-GSs. are they any good? or are they basically the same as any other SVT? thanks!

The GS is practically a SVT-350/450 which are B2R/RE's.

Waste of money IMO.

I have no clue what kind of crate that is and the Blue and red letter SVT's are just early 90's SVT's, nothing wrong with them.

I believe the SVT-GS is the Gene Simmons signature amp. You can see his signature in the lower right hand side of the amp head.

That is a Crate DX guitar amp, a 100H, I think. It is a DSP-based amp with extensive and fancy tube simulation, and actually, with the latest software, pretty nice. It's a stereo head, with two 50W amps, so it can do chorus and so forth. There were several models.

They have 128 presets, selectable with a Midi foot controller, of which there are two types, a fancier and a lesser. You can assign a volume pedal foot control to any of a number of controls and functions through the foot controller.

Back when SLM existed, you could get program updates, and download them to the amp.... probably not available anymore, I might have a couple, I haven't checked. There were only about three updates before the management howled about hating software based amps...

I know the amp, didn't do the DSP stuff, but did program the control interface and did both foot controllers.

There was a DX 212, and a later smaller version that was even better in its best form.

The product manager was never really on board with them (I'm gonna hear about that, I bet, he reads this forum!), and they never got promoted well, plus they were more expensive than they had to be due to some non-negotiable insistence on a certain "look"....... not a success, not a total failure...... basically another SLM "coulda been a contendah" product......... there were a lot of those.
