Double Bass Narrowing the Mic choice...have a few questions

hey all,
Yes, I've read some of the sticky threads on DB mics but I have questions. I've also read some of Harvey's mega thread.
I need tonal opinion on some mics.
I want to buy a mic for the SOLE purpose of studio recording. This will NOT necessary be use for live application.
I'm trying to stay around $400 maybe a bit more. I've been reading all your opinions and understand that a large diaphram condenser mic is a great way to go. A dynamic might also be good and a versatile choice. Below are the mics that seem to be the most popular in my range. Please offer tonal opinions plus the question in #1.
1. Is the Rode NT2-A the same as the NT2?
This mic seems to be coming up alot in discussions.
2. dynamic mic EV RE-20...would this be a better mic than the NT2-A in the studio?

These two mics are the main ones I'm focusing on. The AKG C4000b is also a commonly mentioned mic but at $649.
Chris Fitz kindly suggested the M-Audio Solaris but I've read some negative reviews regarding it's construction so I'm a bit shy on buying that one despite Chris' wonderful tone he's gotten using that mic.
Opinions????
