Nathan East: "The Business of Bass"

I love Nate east playing and he seems to be a good guy.
There's some good advice in this dvd.
but to me most of the dvd is about how good nathan east is.

+100000 about vic wooten dvd.
it's a great music lesson

I just saw Fourplay last weekend and Nathan is better than good... he's excellent! As for the vid? Great info and not as "common sense" as you might think. Apparrently, there are "still" a lot of players ( even big ego cats) out there who manage to get a (big) session but blow it over the issues mentioned in the vid. Remember this is a vid about the "business of bass... not how to play bass". I think it's worth having for sure.

Nathan East... my personal nemsis...

Imaging that you are a 16 year old, very inexperienced bassist, showing up the first day of a new high school to play in the school Jazz Band and you find are replacing the recently graduated Nathan East...

I was doomed. Fall of '77, so I guess nate was Crawford HS class of '76.

I can tell you one reason Nate did good - The band instructor was a bassist and he was good - I have no doubt he really nurtured / pushed old Nate.

+1000!!! I bought the DVD and I'm glad that I did. Nate is a consumate professional and is very well respected and liked.

A Groove is a Terrible thing to Waste!

From what I saw in clips, and considering the title of the DVD, I totally agree; it's not about hearing him play! It's his views on what it takes to become a good, working professional bassist. The playing technique is a totally different issue.

I didn't expect him to do a lot of playing from start to finish of any song, although there's some good clips of him working in the studio.
