Or in other words they used the same hues, maybe even the same paints, as the car manufacturers. But I very much doubt Ford or GM or whoever use the same names for the hues year on year. It's called marketing.

I wouldn't go by a name for the reasons above. I would go in and say I want it this color. And hold up a sample.

Moreover I would be aware that a photograph of a color is in no way a good go-by. It has to be a physical example of the color or a precise pantone reference or something technical. Apparent rather than actual hues can be modified by lighting, film processing, what monitor you're looking at internet reproductions of photos on, you name it. Just look at old Technicolor movies as a blatant example.

PS any professional car sprayer worth his salt will tell you too, paint quality (in the technical sense really meaning consistency) wasn't all that consistent back in the day either. Sometimes it isn't even today.

Joe the sprayer sprayed heavier than Fred, or Fred got distracted and forgot whether he had put on six coats or seven...
