There's actually a 1981 on Reverb right now with a lot of finish checking that supposedly is in good condition and plays just fine according to the listing. It's just had a price reduction to $985 and who knows maybe someone could snag it for a bit less than that! I know if I didn't have the ones I have now I would probably be a buyer on that bass. The way I'm looking at it if you can pick up an l1000 for a thousand bucks or less you're doing pretty well as long as it's playable and in good shape. But looking back just a couple of years on past sales most were under $1,000. They definitely have gone up in the last couple of years I would say. I think even at 12 or $1,400 it's such a unique offering that if in good shape it's absolutely worth it compared to what is on the market today. Of course a brand new l1000 is just 1600 I believe however you don't get the original body shape which I really like. To me the original body shape is just a bit sleeker style wise. It's subtle but it's a really nice difference comparatively. Not sure why G & L changed the shape of both the l1000 and the l2000.
