NBD: 2011 Squier Matt Freeman Precision Bass

Just took home this 2011 Squier Matt Freeman Precision Bass. Got it for 375 Euro from the german classifieds. So far it is in good condition with moderate signs of wear. There may be a loose spot on the soldering of the input jacket, there is a bit of sizzling.
Other than that the bass looks really good and plays and sounds fantastic! :)

…I wonder if putting flatwounds on it would be good idea for classic rock sounds?
I have flats on a couple of my CV basses virtually the same bass as MF minus the maple board and that particular pick-up. Most likely overwound ToneRiders TRP-1
I have the GHS Precision Flats on one and Fender 9050 flats on another, sound killer especially with a little “dirt” added. If you have a particular flat you dig just try em out those MF pickups are killers!

Congratulations on scoring a most excellent bass!

I’ve owned a number of different PBs (MIA, MIM, MIJ) over the years. Wound up never keeping any of them. But then in 2014, and mostly on a whim, I bought a MIC Matt Freeman and finally found my forever PB. Those basses have a neck to die for!

I agree with the praise for this bass. I bought one late last year and it is THE BEST P-Bass I have ever owned! I have a few cork sniffer P-Basses so that says something! For the OP - I strung mine with DR Pure Blues rounds and I think they are a good match for this bass.

Mine had problems with the jack too. Alcohol and a Q-Tip fixed it up.

Congrats on a great buy.

Congrats, HNBD!
As I’m sure you’re aware, those are essentially the same bass as the CV70s p bass from that time frame, the only really differences that I’m aware of are the lack of bound & blocked neck, and the pickup is slightly different.

At the time I picked up my used CV70s, there was someone selling a white Freeman bass as well. I opted for the 70s, as it was $50 cheaper for essentially the same bass. Well, jokes on me now. The Freemans have appreciated a lot over the years! This particular one had a beautifully figured neck, too. Oh well, I still love playing my CV70s, so no regrets.

May you enjoy your bass in good health!

CIC MF P has different neck profile and fret wire spec compare to CIC CV70P.
The MF P neck are little thicker and rounder than Cv70P. On that time, CV50P neck are thickest ,following MFP , CV70P and CV60P.

The fret wire on MF P also notable bit bigger (but same fret height) than all CV P ,CV J and JJ Jazz bass. But still smaller than jumbo fret on Fender MIM Std or Player.

That makes me feel better about opting for the CV70 then. The thinner neck & small fret wire are what has made this my favorite of all the p basses I’ve owned.

Thanks for all your replies! Sounds like I got a good deal, wasn't really sure about this, just liked the bass! :bassist:
yes, condition is really good. Only thing besides the issue with the output jack is the fret wear. It isn't really bad but there are prominent grooves on the first 4-5 frets. Previous owner probably has a really tight grip or the fret wire is really soft.
Anyone else who has experienced this issue on squier basses?
