So I scored this in December from a drummer friend that never got around to really learning how to play bass. Dirt cheap! MIM, in decent shape (a few light scratches, mild fret wear, scratchy jack, VERY grungy and dirty). Finally got around to taking it apart and doing some serious cleaning and evaluation on it last night. It cleaned up very well, but when I took the pick guard off and the control panel off, there was this white powder, some loose, some kind of solid. Looking for ideas what it might be (I already made the coke residue joke to my wife...she asked if I tried snorting it). It was in all of the body cavities and even built up under the pick guard. I got it all vacuumed out, except a few stubborn spots I couldn't get to, so it's no big deal. I'm just puzzled as to what it could be.
