NBD and a question

Got myself a birthday present last weekend.
Yamaha BB434M heavily and very well customized by the gentleman who owned it before me.

• custom pink nitro finish
• Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound PJ set
• CTS pots
• new jack
• Cream Jazz type knobs
• BB734 tuning pegs

Regarding the tuning pegs, I'd like to install an Hipshot D Tuner. Do someone have experience on this? BT1 seems to be a good candidate to match the holes.

If you twist the knob down to D often enough, you'll get so good at hitting the note that you won't need a D-tuner.

I know that doesn't answer your question, but it should save you some money.

How are the pickups? When I've tried BBs in music shops I've often felt the pickups are "unexciting". It's just wires and magnets so I am not sure how the differences are created, but that's my subjective feeling. But obviously, these are not stock. So do they work in context?

That's what I do. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it.

Well maybe…I have 3 other basses with the hipshot…I’m used to it, it’s much easier,
especially in live situations

I would say no, it’s not matte but not even pearlescent.

I never played the stock pickups, but what I’ve heard in several demos was indeed “unexciting”. I’d say the Quarter Pound are on the opposite side, they’re hot, rich of bottom end and snappy. Definitely not vintage sounding pickups

Sorry; I have no experience with "normal" D tuners. I've never played anything that needed one. I do have one bass with a D tuner, though. It's a custom made, Canadian Fury Anthem lined fretless bass. Made in '93 by a sort of "mad genius" who made instruments one at a time, in his basement in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It's one he invented, and it's built into the bridge itself. I never use it, but I've fiddled with it; it really does work very well. Sadly for me, there's no way to take the thing off, without removing everything - which I'm not about to do. It's not in the way, so I just... ignore it. But, it's there if I should ever need it...
