Our basses may have traveled together from Poland to Germany. Adrian sent me a picture last week when mine arrived at his shop and I got it last Thursday.

I am thinking about a custom Maruszczyk Jake as my next bass, the workmanship on this one is excellent and I found Adrian Maruszczyk very pleasant to deal with.

Beauty! Dig the concept. Looks to be very nicely built, too.

Similar to my custom Wymore. Fralins w/stacked knob controls, passive.

I'm confused by the fret directly below the nut. I've not seen that before. What purpose does that serve?

That's a "zero-fret". It is supposed to make the open string sound just like all other tones on the fretboard.

Summary of issues from Vikipedi (Zero Fret):
The zero fret is positioned at the location normally occupied by the nut. On a guitar having a zero fret, the nut is located behind the zero fret and serves solely to keep the strings spaced properly.
The strings rest atop the zero fret, which is sometimes higher than the other frets.
It also has a major contribution to the relief of intonation problems.

Wow, awesome! Very cool, and it's always fun to hear about European brand basses as well. I personally don't consider them all that often when buying/trading, save for Sandberg, Status, and a couple of others. (and Wal, but...well, can't afford those!)

Yes , the bass is passive. Pups are very good, but the J has less output, although it is quite close to the strings. So you lose volume when switching between the pickups. I am sure there is a way to change this, but it doesn't bother me, since I use the P most of the time.
