Uh oh. I unboxed some Keurig K cups we ordered from Amazon a couple weeks ago. They've been sitting in a below 40 degree post office parcel box for five days though... I believe we're safe.

NBD dilemma

I think 3 days of no touch should do it. It’s hard to know what’s safe as the data keeps changing. I’d take it out of the shipping box with rubber gloves and let the inner box sit for natural decontamination via time.
I have rcvd a few shipped items this past Thursday and Friday and opened immediately with no protection. I am highly susceptible due to terminal cancer and have no symptoms.

It keeps changing because the virus is brand new. Recommendations used to be higher when researchers weren’t as certain of its behavior, and came down once they were able to test and confirm what the virus’s limits were.
We used to need several years to understand the transmission mechanisms for new viruses. Now we can get on top of it in a matter of months. Overall it’s absolutely amazing we already know as much about COVID-19 as we do.

OP: you can calculate backwards from when you received the items to determine whether they’re safe. If the shipping time was more than five days, the contents of the box are probably safe. The outside of the box should still be sanitized or left alone for at least three days. The viruses won’t jump off the box onto your carpet
. You should also contact your seller and ask whether they’d opened the product boxes your bass and gear are shipped in. If not, then you only have to concern yourself with the exterior surfaces of the boxes.
There should also be COVID-19 information hotlines in your area, that you should contact for current recommendations. If you’re immune compromised, I strongly suggest talking to them before you receive anything.

Being too safe is not going to hurt anyone.

If it's a new bass chances are good it was built, and packed pre-virus. Wipe down the box with antiseptic wipes (Lysol, clorox etc.) Do the same with any inner box. Once you are down to the foam wrap you should be safe. (Please note- I am not an infectious disease specialist.)

1 - Leave it in the garage for 14 days before I try it?
2 - Get stuck straight into it regardless?

Also most people are vitamin D deficient … if you have a generous amount of vitamin D in your system then a Virus has trouble getting a foothold … so take a generous amount of vitamin D daily and if you can get out in the sun for 1/2 hour daily.
Ironically I recently bought a used Ibanez fretless from a guy who had just got over a nasty flu.
This bass was barely ever played.
I took it home, removed the strings, cleaned the whole thing several times with alcohol and put on a set of strings that were my own.
Lysol the outside of the box. Let it sit.

I've gotten a few boxes this past week as well as a new bass and Amp and I still have 80% lung capacity. You'll be fine.

As some colleagues say, the bass will probably have been packed for a long time and if it were not, gloves to unpack and leave it in a room or garage for a few days in quarantine until the covid dies, if it had one .....

I’d quarantine it for a while. If you have some disposable latex gloves (found at auto zone), you can open it up and inspect it if you have a limited return time.
Threads like these will be extremely confusing for people reading in the future. I find that hilarious.
I swear I caught a case of house flees from a bass purchase once. Probably in the case fur. Not quite the same though...
I agree with the "you can wait for a couple of weeks" approach. Better safe than sorry. Unless it is your only bass. Then go for it, carefully. ( but if it IS your only bass, how can you possibly be on TB? )
