NBD - EBMM Pino Fretless

Well actually I bought this bass Saturday but here goes:

I'd been eyeing this bass for a while and had time to go to The Bass Shop yesterday to check it out. Less than a minute in my hands and I knew it was mine. Amazing tones, effortless to play and just one darn awesome bass. To top it off, @TBird1958 was there and it was his first day working at the shop.

I've played this bass now for about 4 hours and am blown away. So much so, I'm going to give it it's maiden gig on 6/2 at the Central Saloon here in Seattle. It should be a joy.

I was (hardly) working hard that day, seriously I can't even believe that I "work" there.

When I first heard Michael Manring, he was playing an unlined fretless Ray and I was entranced by it.

I understand why he started playing Zon basses, but from a listener's standpoint, I would have been happy to hear him play that Ray for all eternity. He got such a great sound out of it, and it sounded so good in the musical situations he was in.

OMG, that model inspired a 2 year search for a more affordable rendition thereof. Closest i was able to come is a Skyline 44-02 fretless.

Please tell us…..Hows the weight? Do you get the Pino tone as you expected? Man o man o man I am having major envy here.

You don't need the lines. The side dots make it easy to play!

My first introduction to Pino's playing came from one of the very first CD's I ever owned. "Give Blood" from Pete Townshend's White City is just beautiful. Super powerful fretless playing. I'll never be at that level but I now have a tool that will be my go to 4 string fretless for life.
