Hi, I got my Fender JMJ Mustang bass and it sounds great. The 10th fret is buzzing and seems to be thicker and taller then the other frets. Does your JMJ mustang have a different 10th fret too? I am kind of disappointed at the moment. Its not the cosmetics but the buzzing :-(
Yes definitely! Maybe there weren’t any vintage frets left at the factory and they put a normal one in it and filed it to death.
Perhaps. But buying a new (and imho not soooo cheap) bass and having to take it to a tech right away? Not good!
Did you put a straight edge on the fingerboard? That's the way to see if its high or not. Hard to tell by the picture. I was fortunate enough to get one that plays well after a little tweaking. Good luck with that!
I have had issues like this with high end Gibson guitars which agreed you shouldn't have but I have often got a local guy to tweak the action including the odd fret filing down to feel like it should play. As to the quality checking alot of it is rubbish. I just bought an American Performer Mustang and the srews holding the pickups were the wrong size and too small so the pickups were moving around !!! One size bigger screws fixed the problem. So much for it being checked over.
