NBD - Fender Precision American Deluxe (2011)

Hello!

Tecnicaly it´s also a NAD, since the Mesa Boogie TT-800 arrived this week also.

I´ve sold my old Mesa D-800+ plus a Cort fretless bass and got this beauty here, this Fender Precision American Deluxe made in 2011.

I needed a more versatile bass for my band (we play some rock´n roll, pop and a lot of brazilian songs - samba, MPB), and this one will definitely do the job. However, I did find the J pickup a little lacking in tone/punch, but when both are on one complements the other quite nicely.

I have already ordered a tortoise shell pickguard and I´m thinking about new pups, any suggestions? Nordstrand? EMG? I have another P bass with GZR on it and I LOVE, but since this bass has a preamp and it´s both active/passive, don´t know if it will limit my choices.

Anyway, it´s a beast (both of ´em) and I´m having a good time. Can´t wait for my gig on Saturday!

Looks good! In fact, that is a very nice rig. I think the Am Deluxe series is quite good and I found that the Jazz pickup is best used as a tone enhancing effect rather than as a pickup on its own. I’m thinking you will really enjoy the bass with the material you are playing.

Thanks! Yeah, I think I´ll be confortable with the J pickup in the near future. The bass is very confortable to play and has a great tone!

Man, I got myself the exact same Deluxe in 2011. Absolutely loved it. Being the (sometimes aesthetically driven) person I am, the 70's TV logo almost meant as much to me as the excellent tones this bass delivers! Enjoy and Congrats!

Nice looking P.

If you're seriously interested in switching out the pups, I suggest you consider an Aguilar PJ matched set. They are noiseless, hot, and easy to blend well. You can set them up to deliver a very nice (to my ears) low mid punch which I have found superior in a live performance mix.

I used them pretty much exclusively in two P style basses the last 6 or 7 years of my live performance career. I continually received compliments on the sound they delivered from band mates and other musicians in our audiences.

Have fun with your new bass.

Hope this is helpful.

nice bass! That's strange that the J pickup is lacking, even with bass/mid/treble eq on the bass. What exactly seems to lacking?

Very nice. Congrats

Throw a Nordstrand J pickup in there. Maybe a basic Nordy preamp. This bass could become a killer. I have an older Am Dlx J5. Great bass. I put some Nordstrand pickups and basic pre in it. The bass can do anything I need now. It might be worth it to kick it up a notch if it sounds good acoustically. jmho
