NBD: Fender Rascal

I bought one of these new from Adorama a couple years ago for $399 with free shipping. They couldn't give 'em away at that time.

I think they will go down as a collectible because they are just so weird for Fender to make and they weren't out there that long.

They were badmouthed when they first came out (like everything "different" Fender tries such as the Starcaster, Modern Player Tele, Reverse Jaguar, Coronado, Dimension, etc) but I had to have a Rascal when I saw it. I'm not sold on the color, but everything else is perfect. A great little bass. Wish Fender would do more crazy things like this.

The only thing is, I can never remember the name "Rascal." I always refer to it as "that little weird green Fender they made for a little while."

Heh! For a hot second I was terribly confused: I had just seen this bass in the (eBay Germany) want ads - and GASsing for it - not 10 minutes before seeing it here!

Cool bass! I like the offset dots on the fingerboard as well. I remember these, but never had the opportunity to play one.

My Starcaster is from the same era. It another SS that doesn’t feel like one.

I'm on the hunt for one right now, and every time Google reminds me of that Adorama deal (since I've only even known about this bass for about a month and a half now) my heart hurts. If I would have seen that when it was an active deal, I wouldn't have been able to throw my money at it fast enough! I'd gladly pay double that for one now.
