I wonder if one of these could handle BEAD? Anyone know?

I wouldn't. They use basically guitar size tuners that are hard to get an E string through. You could probably manage a slightly larger gauge and downtune to D, but it would be a bit loose still because of the shorter scale. Best to go with 34" scale for BEAD at least IMHO.

I noticed they are nicely made but not really solidly built. Would love a Longhorn 5'er.

I've been using a Longhorn as my primary bass for years now . It's as tough as nails , despite being a featherweight . Completely changed my concept of just what made an instrument "good".

My only gripe is the tuners. I slightly drilled mine out to fit the strings better.
