NBD-G&L Goodness

View attachment 4700063
G&L Kiloton. Ruby Red with matching headstock. Blocks, binding and ebony. I'm really digging the MFD pickups. Incredible clarity is what I'm hearing. I strung it with La Bella flats 105. The P has 110. The J has TI low tensions.
G&L does fantastic metallic finishes. Got it in 12 weeks to the day. View attachment 4700066

Outstanding! In fact, all 3 are outstanding. That Ruby red finish is amazing, though. And, this is the second NBD post I've seen with a G&L bass. Might need to take a closer look.

Damn, that does look sharp.

Are you (like me) one of them folks that doesn't like the feel of maple necks? If so, I'd love to hear your take on the feel of rosewood vs. ebony.

Hard to say. I've never played a maple fingerboard that I liked, but I keep trying.
It's the hole in my collection. Most of the ones I've played have too heavy of a finish on them. I like a bass that feels like wood rather than plastic. I'm really looking for that maple board bass that changes my mind.
My #1 bass is a 94 MIM Fender J with a rosewood board. I love rosewood, but you just can't get the same thing now.
I love all my ebony boards (I have 3) and I'm keen to witness how they age. My oldest is only 5 years old so, while I love it now, I'm quite certain I'll love it more in 20 years. There was a post on here from Taylor Guitars "The State of Ebony" - Guitar Wood - Bob Taylor Video - YouTube a while ago that educated me on environmentally sustainable ebony vs. environmentally detrimental ebony. Made me love the ribbons of milky white color in my ebony even more. It feels and sounds like what I would think maple should sound and feel like, without the plasticky varnish feel.
Love old rosewood. Loving ebony so far. Can't find a maple I like. Pau ferro can jump in a volcano.

It sounds like Ferro owes you money.
What Pau Ferro feels like to me ...
