Dilemmas in the title. I've tried both and both are absolutely sublime. It would be my biggest gear investment by a long way so I need to get this right. The cheaper Squier Cabronita which came out recently was a bit of a turn off to the Fender, but I've played both and for a Fender P the Cabronita is incredible value. I'm in a rock/indie originals band so either suits the stuff we play, and my current bass (Epi Thunderbird) is a totally different feel so as far as matching it to my current player is concerned it's all fairly irrelevant. Any advice/experience/ alternate suggestions are greatly appreciated Thanks
I can't speak for the Cabronita, but the Casadys are just so versatile. I use mine for everything from ballads to fuzzed out distorto-rock and all points in between. If the balance issue with the Casady drives you nuts, order a set of Hipshot Ultralites for it and that pretty much solves the problem. It's the bass that's so good that I have two.
and so the decision becomes harder how do you like the build quality of that JC? Although I can't really speak as I've never played a hollow body bass before, it felt a little fragile whereas I heard a reviewer liken the Cabronita to 'playing a tree'
I have a Cabronita and I love it. I put Labella flats on and it purrs if I need it and most definitely growls when called upon! I tried out the JC and I just was not comfortable with the shape. And I found the neck a bit too skinny. I know it's a standard scale bass but I felt like it was medium scale for some reason. Most probably the shape of the bass threw me off. No complaints tone-wise though.
Dammit, was pining for a shortfall with at least one of them , what kind of music do you play? It seemed pretty oriented towards blues/jazz, it was definitely a warmer sound than the cabronita
I'd go with the Cabronita. The Cassidy is sweet, but a pain in the ass to adjust, and set up. And high tension strings can mess with bridge.
I own a Cabronita & love it! Great rock-leaning tone and mine is holding up great on tour! That said, I love Jack Cassady's as well (I don't own one but have played them a bunch). Honestly the Jack is a little more versatile for a wider range of styles. The tone is less mid forward. 2 very different sounding and playing basses! If you are in a more aggressive rock band, the Cabronita is a great choice. If your gigs lean mote to rootsy material, I'd choose the JC.
Please do! Not saying the Casady can't do aggressive rock - just that the Cabronita leans that way while the Casady leans more towards rootsy rock.
Here you go: When the bass kicks in at 2:06, that's a Casady through a Malekko B:Assmaster and a VT Bass straight into the Pre. http://captheclimax.bandcamp.com/track/a-windy-shot
The Casady is magic but I had problems twice--first w the bridge broke then truss rod broke. What is that. If it weren't for those major breakdowns it would be my only bass. Get it together epiphone come on.
