Here's my newest short-scale bass, a sibling to my red History KBJ fretless.
History is one of the house brands of the Japanese Shimamura music store chain, and these short-scale models were manufactured by Fujigen in 2002. Acquired this, like most of my other short-scale instruments, using red History KBJ fretless..
This one came in a semi-sparkly dark grey gunmetal finish with matching headstock. Ben Frye at Rock'n'Roll Vintage on Damen did some spectacular upgrades on it, replacing the stock tuners with Hipshot Ultralites, the bridge with a Hipshot KickAss, and the pickups with the Invalid Link Removed(this set has two neck-width pickups, designed for Fender MIM Jazz basses) - though it did require some additional embiggening of the pickup routs.
He also installed a Gotoh battery box, as the existing rear-routed cavity wasn't quite big enough, and hardwired the EMG pots to save space as well. New Kilo knobs topped off the refit.
It's strung with a low .130 BEAD tuning using Link Removed. I was kind of inspired by the Tim Lefebvre short-scale 5 that Maurizio Uber Basses made to try this out.
