NBD - I have found the perfect Jazz bass

This is my 20th year of playing bass, and I guess I'm going just a wee bit overboard? I've always felt like Elrick NJS basses are, by far, the best looking bass guitars on the planet. Rob Elrick is a gentleman as well, who assured me on Instagram that even though these are European made basses, he selected the materials himself.

The Elrick NJS plays like a dream. Even better than my Sadowsky Metroline Germany, which is a beautiful bass in its own right. The neck is a little wider than my Fender Jazz but somehow it fits my hand perfectly. And the Bartolini preamp is just SO DARN POWERFUL!

On paper, it's heavier than my Sadowsky which is just 7.5 lbs, but I don't feel the 8.3 lbs of the Elrick at all. If anything, strangely enough, it feels even lighter. Special thanks to the good folks at Bass Direct who shipped it all the way to India from the UK.

I'll never be Geddy Lee, but I'll settle for playing a bass that looks like his.

Haha, it certainly was. I think all Elrick bass purchases are GAS based. You only find boutique basses once you've tried the Fenders and Music Mans around you.

Very nice! I'm guessing that extra weight you don't feel is just the effect of a well-balanced instrument. It's a unique looking take on the jazz bass, I like the extra access you get from the deep lower cutout. And the way the pickguard curves around the top knob.

I like those a lot - I'm one of those people who thinks the full sized Fender J body was a design miss and looks a little overweight. Elrick is one of the builders who has figured out the right places to shave off bulk to make the design sexier. If I were considering a J, this bass would be on my shortlist.

I've had one...they play like cream cheese (that's good). You may not ever be Geddy but he ain't ever gonna be you. If you're having a lot of fun, and I'm guessing you are, it doesn't matter.

Sorry to revive this thread but it's in a different league from my Sadowsky Germany which was a great bass in its own right. The neck is somewhere between a P and a J and plays like a dream.
