NBD-Ibanez BTB7

Decided to buy this nice BTB seven to go with my MG 7 Extrememan fretless 7, and I couldn’t be happier. What a wonderful instrument they both are.
Play chords and loop them and then play along. It’s a hell of a lot of fun. It’s also letting me explore instead of up and down the neck horizontally, which is a lot of fun seven strings let you play a scale pattern so you can play all of the modes in one position, which is really fun and nice
I could also add that Travis picking a seven string bass is superduper fun.
For the curious, the MG I keep tuned in standard, and the Ibanez is tuned more like low B below a regular six string guitar tuning, but an octave lower.
I’ve tried the MG in the other tuning, I struggle with the bridge fingers a little bit. When trying to make the strings go high-pitched, I’ve run out of room and I had to take a washer off the end. I also don’t like those bridge fingers because they have gaps between the adjusting screws that are raising or lower the strings and so you can’t go any finer than 0.025 inches for your high strain. In comparison, it’s a 0.19 on the Ibanez.

That does sound really nice and yeah, we do need more 6+ bass players around here.
As far as multi strings, what have I got? I’ve got 2 fretless six strings, and one fretless seven string and the new fretted one now. Which is also fan fret by the way and the first time I’ve had that. It’s awesome, especially for chords.I think that’s it for now, maybe more later… you never know.
Que the "Jaco only needed 4" nonsense. Wait till they figure out how many actual notes difference there is between a 24 fret 4 string and a 24 fret 6 string....
Good for you. Sounds like a useful tool. I have considered it before but have not pulled the trigger. Been a happy fretless 6 string guy now since the 90's.

What strings are you using? When I was playing 7's I liked the SR2000 set since it had the least weird sounding F string I found. I don't think those strings are made nowadays though.
Very cool. I had the 747 for a while but I found that my brain worked better with even numbers of strings for some reason. I feel more comfortable on a six than on a five. I’m not quite sure why that is… or if it’s just in my head
I love BTBs (have an 846v) and am waiting on a BTB 7 string to turn up locally at the right price.

I think a 7 tuned B to F would be a great companion to my female friend on guitar as a duo as even playing in the same key, the longer scale and heavier strings have a different, complimentary timbre.

Thanks for all the likes and comments. I really appreciate it. I’m having a blast. I just played it for,I don’t know, the better part of 45 minutes after a good hour and a half this morning it’s an incredible instrument you can do anything on it.
As for the F strings yes problems to find for sure. I tried Piccolo on my fretless seven string and hated it because it was unwound, but on the Ibanez the F string is unwound and the strings are stainless steel D’Addarios. Stock from factory. On the fretted it sounds fantastic, especially with chords.
I have been investigating the offerings from SIT strings lately in the MG. I quite like their taper wounds, but the core diameter is unuseable for me because of the gap in the bridge fingers so the F string goes right through unless I get something that is 0.025 or maybe .024 if I’m lucky. Hard to do.
If I could do it again, the fretless would also have a head stock and not be headless and then I could use flat wounds like I’d like to. The Allen key clamp style is just a no go for just about any flat wound string than I’ve heard of.

My own pair of 7-string fretted and fretless basses when I had them almost 20 years ago. Those were the days lol.
I know it’s a good instrument when it pushes me to new technical heights so to speak. I’m thoroughly amazed with this thing.
