NBD: Ibanez SRSC805 Cerro

Cool, I will look around for a decent deal on the Gotoh's ..like the look of those tuners

watch out you may end up like me...

changed the tuners in all my Ibanez basses to Res-o-lites, including the acoustic one. I've even already prepared a set waiting to be installed on my next Ibanez bass. And seriously thinking that I should buy another Res-o-lite set for my 5th Ibanez bass in my GAS list. :banghead:

Checking back in... this thing still sounds amazing. Still feels great. No regrets.

I'm starting to experiment with my posture, and raising the neck does reveal the balance issue more. But slightly raising the instrument as a whole keeps the far end of the neck accessible, so we'll see if I end up keeping it there or looking at weight-shifting options.

Ibanez never ever once responded to either my or my local dealer's inquiries on the replacement electronics, though eventually the module became available to order via said dealer. It's been ~3 weeks since I've done that...so to date, I have only played in passive mode. Due to really low output while passive, I've raised the pickups, and that's helped some, but it's still sort of quiet; still, the tone is fat and very sculptable even then.

So basically, I wish someone OTHER than Ibanez made this bass, because I'm convinced they're pretty much horrible people. But they did a helluva job making it.

So this just happened....

I'll be dropping these in soon. To be honest, the electronics on my Cerro are great, I'm just a little spoiled by some of my other basses. I'm looking for a hotter output as well as the coil split option, which these will give me. I'll probably pair these with a Pope Flexcore for maximum...well...flexibility. I'll make some sound clips of a before and after.
Still loving my Cerro!

Interested! My Skyline 55-01 bought new from Bass Central quite some years back, was my first Lakland brand bass. It had the MK-1 Barts which I felt were Ok back then; really loved that bass' neck from the first time I held it right out of the box. As happens here on TB, I got caught up in the Lakland Skyline hype, with good reason, and next bought a used 55-02D on TB. Sold the 55-01 locally soon after. Played the 55-02D for a couple good years then sold it here. Wish I'd not sold it now. But I think it was the Bartolini pups in both those basses that made me move it out. I've been looking for a used -02D w/LH-3 pups/electronics for comparison. Not many of those used around these days.

While shopping on Sweetwater site tonite, looking at the new -02D's and even the 55-01's again. I came across this Iby SRSC805-Cerro bass. I mostly like the looks of it but noticed it came with the MK-1 Barts. From a few Utube vids, most seem to be OK with the MK-1's in this bass due to Ibby's preamp. Never really cared for the looks of the Single-Cut style basses but this one caught my eye. And as mentioned here upgrades seem do-able for this bass fairly easy.

I typically gig my '08 Am St P5, Carvin SB5000, Valenti #25 w/Nordy pups/pre and a sweet little '15 MIM ADJ-V that I just got after searching awhile for it in Vintage White. And with my most recent band I'm now using my Godin Ultra-5FL for the restaurant style gigs we do.

I've not searched yet but what is the purpose of the single-cut body on basses? Is there one or is it just for looks?

I like that this Cerro 5er is lighter than most of my basses. Sorry to read that some had build or electronic issues with their new SC800's that happened soon after purchase. Haven't owned a Ibanez bass since those couple about $500 Soundgear's I bought new quite few years ago. IIRC, those had the MK-1 Barts in em. I need to go try one out but will prolly order one on my Sweetwater acct after. I'll keep reading up on this bass. Anyone suggest a similar/better/prettier(?) single cut in same price range, please feel free. peace, e

@Basehead....any update on installing those new Barts in the Cerro?

I haven't yet dropped these in as I want to pair up the USA Barts with a Pope preamp. Unfortunately, I just shelled out $1500 on car repairs, so I'll have to wait a bit longer to place my order. I'm thinking by next month it should all be in....stay tuned!

Well, I gave in to my GAS attack and ordered a new, Ibby SRSC805, should be here Monday. Will be my first SC style bass. I hope to live with the stock MK-1 pups if I can. Haven't had those pups in a bass since my first Lakland years ago; Skyline 55-01. I have a Valenti(#25)5 stringer, wonder if I could drop those Nordy FatStacks into this Ibanez temporarily to see how they fit and what they may sound like?

No longer for sale. I've decide to keep it for now. I love the way it sounds and sustains. I love the way it looks. I love the 18-mm string spacing for slap and especially pop. What I hate is the position of the upper strap button at fret 14. It worsens the balance (even with Res-O-Lite tuners) and increases the reach. I'm compensating for both by keeping my forearm on the bass and holding it a a steep angle. If Ibanez had just made the upper bout 2 frets longer, I would love the bass overall.

@Basehead

How did you like the bass after the pick-up change? I did the 4-string version of this swap on my SR500 and liked the results, but I'm interested in your opinion of the swap on this bass wth this preamp.
