Here's my latest conversion of a junior guitar to a mini electric bass. I was perusing Guitar Center WLA when I came across this Jackson Dinky Minion 22.75" scale guitar hanging on the wall, the size I like for converting to a bass. It was $149 and when I asked if they had one in a box, she said no but would discount this open box to $129 so I grabbed it.
I usually have my conversions done by Eric's Guitar Shop in Van Nuys, CA, but I decided to do this one myself. I bought a bridge, tuners, nut and strings. Filled the 6 string tuner holes with dowels, painted them (badly), drilled new holes. I painted the truss rod cover to match the body but it took three tries because each neon pink color I bought didn't match, and it still doesn't. Added extensions on the end of the strings to allow for the 25" scale to fit (wanted to avoid the work of drilling string-through holes).
When I put on the strings, the G wouldn't stay in the nut slot because of how offset that tuner is, so I ordered a small string tree for that and the D string.
It actually sounds really good. Next time I'll be more patient and do a better job.
